Who Should I See?
Doctors (GPs) are very busy and help people who are really unwell.
Before booking a doctor’s appointment, think:
👉 Could a nurse help me instead?
Nurses can help with lots of health problems.
The reception team can help you choose the right person to see.
Looking After Yourself (Self Care)
If you have a small problem like:
- A cough
- A cold
- A headache
Try to take care of yourself at home first.
This helps doctors have more time for people who are very sick.
Your Pharmacist Can Help
A pharmacist is a medicine expert you can find at a pharmacy.
They can help with things like:
- Coughs and colds
- Aches and pains
- Small illnesses
👉 You don’t need an appointment — just walk in or call them.
They can also tell you if you need to see a doctor or nurse.

You can call 111 if:
- You feel unwell and need advice quickly
- You’re not sure who to talk to
- You don’t have a doctor
- You want to know what to do next
A&E (Emergency Department)
A&E is only for serious emergencies, like:
- Life-threatening injuries
- Very serious illness
Before going, ask yourself:
👉 “Is this a real emergency?”If it’s not, try other services first.
